Standard sizes

Standard-sized Normstahl garage doors

A key factor when planning a new garage or renovating an existing one is the door’s dimensions. In fact, it’s an aspect that can deliver huge potential savings for house builders or renovators. Garage door manufacturers offer single and double garage doors in standard sizes that are cheaper than custom-made ones. Moreover, Normstahl always has special offers on standard-sized garage doors. As you can see: It’s well worth thinking about the garage door right from the start of your building project.

Standard sizes for single and double garages

We offer Normstahl garage doors for both single and double garages in standard sizes. Listed below are our standard sizes for single garage doors:

  • 2375 x 2000 mm

  • 2375 x 2125 mm

  • 2375 x 2250 mm

  • 2,500 x 2000 mm

  • 2,500 x 2125 mm

  • 2,500 x 2250 mm

Double garage doors are offered in the same height. Their widths usually start at 4000 mm (= 4 metres). Normstahl double garage doors are available in the following standard sizes:

  • 5,000 x 2000 mm

  • 5,000 x 2125 mm

  • 5,000 x 2250 mm

The advantage of our overhead sectional doors is that the door width can be adjusted at no extra charge. So the only additional cost of customising them relates to the door height.

What are the benefits of standard sizes?

The pricing of garage doors is essentially based on their dimensions. There are standard sizes that are defined in a matrix by each garage door manufacturer. If the dimensions deviate by just a few millimetres, the door is classified as custom-made. And that can be more expensive. So the key reason why house builders opt for standard sizes is cost. Standard sizes are commonly encountered garage door widths and heights, making their manufacture more efficient and cost-effective. Our customers benefit from those cost advantages. Also, standard-sized garage doors don’t have to be reduced in height. By contrast, if a custom door is made shorter, depending on the chosen surface finish and any special design features, the look of it may be impacted.

What doesn’t fit can be made to fit

Ideally, of course, the garage door should fit perfectly into the opening. If an opening is slightly too large, it can be reduced by panelling so as to fit the standard-sized garage door. However, this is only possible – and advisable – where size differences are only minor.

For other requirements, we at Normstahl do of course also offer custom-made products sized precisely to the millimetre. Just contact your nearest Normstahl dealer for details. They will make sure that you get the right door for your garage.
